The Department of Physics and Astronomy in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University seeks qualified applicants for a Teaching Laboratory Coordinator. This position manages and coordinates the functions and operation of the undergraduate Physics teaching laboratory program for over 200 laboratory sections per academic year.
Responsibilities include the management of the budget; purchase and inventory control of laboratory materials and equipment; lab safety; maintenance, design and modification of laboratory equipment; computers and supplies; and the supervision of graduate teaching assistants. Instructional responsibilities include the design and modification of weekly laboratory activities, the creation of student assignments, assessments, and grading criteria, and the safety training required by EHS and OSHA. The appointee will be required to complete a training program by the Environmental Health and Safety and OSHA. Additional duties for this position require the development, management, and integration of online course material in Blackboard and on the World Wide Web, as well as, the integration of student educational software directly in the laboratory. Periodically, evening and weekend availability in support of classes is required.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 1 year of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Degree in Engineering, Physical Sciences or other related degrees; Masters Degree; Experience in a laboratory setting; Experience with equipment maintenance.
