For the Dental Clinic, within the Department of Otolaryngology, the Pro Fee Coordinator will be responsible for assisting in maintaining and monitoring the day to day processing of functions within the business unit. Responsible for assisting in reviewing and analyzing the accuracy staff work relating to insurance and billing. Will assist in weekly and monthly report preparation, developing office policies and procedures, a focus on troubleshooting and problem solving will be expected, as well as, to exercise independent judgment. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and staff information. Promote teamwork and assist in identifying areas of improvement and recommend coordinated actions to bring about changes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining and monitoring the day to day processing of assigned billing functions within the Unit.
Assists with basic insurance and third party queries and explains payment policies. Discuss patient charges, if appropriate, with patients and/or patients' families.
Assigns diagnostic and procedures codes to charge vouchers-input into the computer. Reviews patient charges and extracts chargeable items.
Informs patients of costs or care being provided, and guides them to appropriate resources for further information, guidance, or assistance.
Evaluates eligibility for alternative sources of financing such as Medicaid, Patient Care Funds. Refers patient to appropriate office and ensures application for funds has been made.
Verifies and enters pre-registration and insurance information into the computer system and prepares daily printed schedules for designated areas.
Schedules patients for appointments, laboratory tests, medical examinations, and consultations in the dental clinic. Relays information to patients regarding preparation for laboratory tests and examinations.
Registers patients for clinical appointments using computerized database.
Serve as team member responsible for reviewing and analyzing the accuracy of staff work.
Assist in training new staff and existing staff members.
Provide feedback regarding problems to management and assists in problem resolution.
Generate weekly and monthly productivity reports as assigned.
Communicate with appropriate individuals outside the assigned department or institution as designated by management.
Assists management in assigning and tracking a portion of the daily work.
Serves as backup for report generation in Manager's absence.
Serve as a resource for staff questions and provides staff training as needed.
Identifies and resolve key issues and takes appropriate action to respond to complex patient and medical insurance inquiries.
Answers phones and provides routine information to callers.
Other duties as assigned.

Continuous Performance Improvement
High School Diploma/GED. Two years of experience in a specialty area or previous medical billing experience in a similar environment is required.
Associate Degree or higher level degree preferred.

Technical qualifications or specialized certifications
Comprehensive knowledge and compliance of HIPAA rules and regulations in the dissemination of patient Protected Health Information (PHI).
Working knowledge of JHU/ PBS Billing Applications.
Utilize online resources to facilitate efficient claims processing.
Uses relevant functions of (IDX) and (EPIC) billing systems.
