The Fire Inspector I, is responsible for: working various departments and safety committees on campus to develop and update emergency evacuation plans for all campus facilities; coordinating with SSC for conducting emergency evacuation drills; and assisting with various aspects of the fire and life safety programs.
Required Education and Experience:
High School diploma or GED.
Two years of work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Must have computer skills in such areas as spreadsheet, word processing and or relational databases and be familiar with the use of Microsoft Office software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Requires ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Required Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Valid State of Texas driver license or the ability to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
Failure to obtain a valid TDL may result in termination.
Ability to withstand moderate exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, loud noises and chemical substances.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Some college coursework and one year of work experience in a safety-related field such as: industrial hygiene, fire safety, occupational safety or occupational health.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with fire safety, experience working on in a University setting
Preferred Licenses, Certifications and Registrations:
Fire safety related certifications
In conjunction with various building proctors, facility coordinators, and safety committees, develop and update facility emergency evacuation plans.
In conjunction with various building proctors, facility coordinators, and safety committees, and SSC Fire and Life Safety shop, conduct and evaluate facility emergency evacuation drills.
Assist in various areas of the fire and life safety program to include but not limited to review of gas testing documentation, assistance with the State Fire Marshal inspections, assistance with insurance inspections as related to fire and life safety
Respond to campus emergencies along with other EHS staff. Perform Other Duties as assigned
