The Rockefeller University seeks a Laboratory Manager to join Systems Cancer Biology. The Laboratory Manager will work as part of a team in identifying and characterizing genes that regulate-cancer metastasis and developing anti-metastatic therapeutics. Will conduct experiments under the guidance of a senior postdoctoral fellow and the Head of Laboratory. The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for managing day-to-day activities within the research laboratory, including ensuring operation of essential equipment, maintaining adequate supplies for routine experimental procedures, and overseeing research assistants performing general lab duties. The Laboratory Manager will regularly meet with the Head of Laboratory and lab administrator to align goals for the entire laboratory, and collaboratively and independently determine processes required to achieve those goals. Will develop and refine online laboratory guidelines, protocols, the inventory system, and other lab organization tools to sustain a highly organized, functioning lab. Will serve as a point of contact between the lab and vendors and other university departments to promptly attend to any existing and new lab-operation issues. Responsibilities will also include, but are not limited to: consolidating and tracking all purchases, evaluating new techniques, technology, reagents, and general supplies/consumable for higher efficiency and performance while minimizing the costs, establishing a tissue culture core, and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations (IACUC, IRB, LS&EH, research support, etc.).
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience conducting research in a laboratory or a Master's degree in science required. Previous experience managing personnel in a scientific environment highly desirable. Must be able to perform molecular biology and biochemistry techniques with little or no guidance, including solid aseptic techniques, basic cloning, transfection of mammalian cells, RNA/DNA extraction, Western blots, immunohistochemistry/fluorescence, and RT-qPCR. Experience performing microscopy, tissue processing/sectioning, protein purification, and handling mice is highly desirable. Must be able to review both long-term and short-term goals for the team, determine processes necessary to achieve those goals, and develop creative methods or systems to facilitate those processes if necessary. Must be a superb problem solver with strong motivation, work ethic, and interpersonal skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to multitask required. Proficiency with common software, including MS Office, Acrobat, and Photoshop/Illustrator, required. Must have strong inter-personal skills, respect, and positive demeanor to build trust to lead the team when necessary and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
