Coordinate and handle the daily tasks and operations of the computer labs for the College of Technology. Responsibilities include all aspects of the labs, including but not limited to maintaining all instruments/equipment, developing user safety instructions and protocols, routine maintenance and equipment upgrade plans, inventory supplies and materials to ensure smooth lab operations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate, maintain, repair, service, and supervise computer labs in Sill and Roosevelt;
Order and maintain inventories of supplies and equipment needed for testing purposes; establish and maintain records of disposition and operating condition of on-site test equipment;
Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair complex manufacturing equipment and instrumentation; Assess and develop future laboratory plan to address the current lab limitations; future requirements, financial needs, and capital asset acquisitions;
Develop and manage implementation of CoT lab strategic improvement initiatives;
Manage on-going labs to be OSHA and accreditation (e.g., ABET and NASAD) readiness. Complete Environmental Safety and Health (ESH) training that meets OSHA requirements and ESH "first responder" training and certification;
Ensure that the laboratories are cleaned and all equipment are functioning properly and safely;
Keep current with the all local, state and federal standards and regulations requirements specific to the labs and ensure all users are in compliance with those rules; Oversee laboratories safety and update the safety accessories, procedures, and manuals;
Provide safety training for faculty, Teaching Assistants (TAs), Graduate Assistants (GAs), undergraduate and graduate research assistant, and students' workers as needed;
Support student projects' lab time, on a scheduled basis with student workers;
Manage TA /GA Student Lab Support as assigned;
Provide technical and laboratory support to EMU Critical Recognition Projects (i.e., Mini Baja, EVehicle, etc.);
Work with the EMU Office of Environmental Health and Safety to ensure that all faculty, staff and students, follow safe procedures;
Set-up and prepare samples and equipment according to the standard of each experiment;
Coordinate lab activities and supervise students while doing their work-study, research, senior design, and extracurricular projects in the labs
Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology or closely related area. Knowledge of a wide range of manufacturing equipment and laboratory practices, typically acquired through the completion of two years of post-high school course work or training in manufacturing, engineering, electronics and computer technology, is necessary in order to design, fabricate, maintain, troubleshoot and repair complex manufacturing equipment and instrumentation.

Strong oral/written communication and interpersonal skills with ability to build work relationships with a diverse workforce at all levels
Background knowledge of Mechanical and Mechanical Engineering Technology practices including lab tests and analyses.
Ability to train and supervise students in lab operations
Ability to learn and update knowledge with the most recent published standards.
Effective organizational and time management skills with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to maintain testing equipment and instruments and prepare lab samples
Basic personal computer skills
