The Department of Radiology is seeking a full time Laboratory Technician. Under the general supervision of a faculty investigator, the candidate is responsible for but not limited to: cloning of mammalian expression vectors for imaging and therapy, conducting radio-uptake assays using radio-labeled probes, maintaining cancer cell line culture, working with small rodents (injection of cells and drugs, optical and nuclear imaging, therapeutic efficacy study, and toxicity study), performing molecular biology assays (RT-PCR, western blot, nucleic acid preparation, and microscopic analyses), conducting data collection and analyses, managing laboratory equipment and spaces.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Knows the informal policies, procedures, and practices necessary to conduct the normal function of a specific section, unit, or work area. Is aware of the role of the position and its potential impact on the working unit. Carries out duties and responsibilities with supervision. Assist in the lab by preparing tissue extracts and blots. Maintain accurate data records. Monitor inventory levels, orders materials and supply in accordance with established policies and procedures. Assist with running standard spectroscopy measurements on tissue extracts, and assist with running western blots. Monitor inventory levels, order materials and supply in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Exchanges routine information in an appropriate manner requiring good oral and written communication skills.
High School Diploma/GED with some science coursework.
Training Certificate from Technical Institute preferred. Certificate from technical institute or internship experience preferred. Preferred science courses with lab & research lab experience in molecular biology and/or biochemistry. Some related work experience preferred in a comparable lab performing relevant techniques, coupled with a survey knowledge of biological sciences, chemistry, or related field. Experience in basic laboratory procedures highly desired. Experience with radio-active material and microscopic analyses preferred. Experience with small rodent imaging preferred. Experience with molecular biology preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must be detail oriented, keep clear experimental records, have effective organizational skills, and be able to prioritize workload appropriately. Must be able to perform multiple tasks efficiently and correctly, often operating more than one instrument at a time.
Any specific physical requirements for the job: Must be able to lift 25 lbs., Must be able to sit for long period of time, and must be able to climb at least 4 flights of stairs.
