The Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a motivated laboratory technician with experience in chemical synthesis and pharmacokinetic research. The individual will be responsible for, but not limited to, synthesizing chemicals, developing analytical methods for preclinical pharmacology studies, and running samples using HPLC machines. A willingness to work with laboratory animals, transgenic mice, rats and rabbits is required; training will be provided.
The candidate will be responsible for a variety of laboratory procedures. The technician will be responsible for completing procedures in a timely and thorough manner and will be expected to communicate clearly with the researchers at the Center for Nanomedicine. Duties and responsibilities include:
Synthesize novel pharmaceutical compounds
Characterizing novel pharmaceutical compounds
Develop analytical methods and optimization for pharmacokinetics analysis
Running HPLC to measure drug release kinetics
Analyzing, recording, and organizing HPLC data
Weekly maintenance of HPLC machine
Pharmacokinetic studies in animal models
High school diploma/GED with some science coursework required.
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry preferred. HPLC, pharmacokinetic research, microscopy, chemical synthesis experience.
Special knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Work requires precision and attention to detail. Individual should have strong written communication and interpersonal skills. Must have the ability to read and interpret direction, both oral and written, organize and prioritize work and follow through on assignments. Must be able to work successfully as part of a team in a high volume, dynamic laboratory.
