The Director will report to an Assistant County Administrator. The Director is responsible for the leadership, organization, direction and coordination of the day-to-day operations of the department, utilizing considerable independent judgment and initiative to govern in a manner that ensures compliance with the highest industry standards as required by state and federal regulatory agencies. Duties involve responsibility for resource allocation, including budget and personnel. Duties also involve planning and devising work programs related to safe and efficient operations of the department.
The candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in public administration, project management, environmental management, engineering, or a related field; supplemented by at least 8 years of broad scope, senior level management experience planning and managing public utilities programs, resources and operations, or a Master's degree and 6 years experience as described above. The individual will ideally have progressively responsible management experience in the utilities industry. Experience working with regulatory agencies and other public entities is essential. Licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) is desired, but not required. Also highly desired is experience in the principle and practices of asset management, specifically the standards set forth in ISO 55000.
