The Superintendent answers to the District's Administrator and is responsible for planning and directing the safe operations and maintenance of the Sanitary District's wastewater treatment plant, tertiary treatment facility, conveyance systems, and equalization basins. This position supervises and assists operation and maintenance staff in achieving the goals of the Sanitary District. The position plans emergency response plans, develops and leads safety program, prepares, reviews, compiles and maintains records and reports, develops and maintains standard operating procedures for the bio-solids processing and application program, assists in ensuring compliance with relevant federal and state regulations and Interstate Power and Light Company water reuse contract, responds to after hour emergencies, assists with developing operations and maintenance budget, participates in short and long term capital planning, coordinates purchases, maintains inventory of necessary equipment and supplies performs annual staff reviews, reviews time cards, provides plant tours and all other related duties as assigned. Candidates shall have at the time of appointment an Iowa wastewater operator Grade 4 certificate. Knowledge and skill in the following areas: chemistry, mathematics, biology, Activated Sludge wastewater treatment plant principals, operations and equipment, wastewater conveyance system principals, operations, and equipment, NPDES permit and water reuse contract requirements, federal and state sewage sludge disposal regulations, operational hazards of wastewater conveyance and treatment including arc flash and confined space entry, interpretation of plans, diagrams, and specifications, Iowa One Call regulations, public relations and speaking, supervision of personnel, word processing and spreadsheet software, possess valid Iowa driver's license and able to obtain a CDL within 6 months of appointment.
