This position performs duties within the field of Industrial Hygiene to support the Environmental Health Program at Kennedy Space Center (KSC), Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS) and Patrick Air Force Base (PAFB). Position performs various types of Industrial Hygiene Surveys under the direction of project managers. The position must understand the use and operation of various types of industrial hygiene instruments such as; sound level meters, voltmeters, integrated air sampling equipment, etc.
Conduct industrial hygiene evaluations, collect and prepare samples for analysis, update applicable databases and maintain records.
Prepares, sets up, calibrates and operates electronic or mechanical sample collection or testing devices as required to support program responsibilities.
Cleans and maintains field operating and collection equipment and devices to ensure proper operation. Maintains field supplies.
Ensures monitoring equipment is calibrated and properly maintained.
Performs or assists with any departmental operations, as required or directed to maintain workflow.
Performs range of administrative duties required to fulfill program or contractual requirements related to designated area of specialty, including record keeping, inventory maintenance, supply requisition, database maintenance and similar duties as assigned.
Maintains government vehicles according to procedures.
Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Properly manages by-products, which may include hazardous wastes, resultant from workplace activities. Specific responsibilities may include proper waste segregation, containerization, handling, and following site-specific workplace instructions.
Properly manages colorimetric indicator tubes and ensure the proper disposal (potentially hazardous waste) of used tubes.
Field and laboratory equipment including various meters, calibration devices, pumps, vehicles, computers, usual peripherals and common office equipment will be used.
Demands of work assignments require some physical exertion such as climbing, walking, stooping, as well as, other more specific, but common, characteristics such as use of personal protective equipment. Use of personal protective equipment to include air purifying respirator and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) are required.
Education / Training:
Associate of Science in science disciplines and one year of experience required, four year degree or equivalent preferred. A minimum of two years of experience is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
Requires the ability to operate and maintain various types of equipment, record/download data, and effectively communicate verbally and in writing where information includes scientific terminology.
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively are required.
Must be familiar with Microsoft Office Programs.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible for a security clearance.
Must be able to work in confined/enclosed spaces and areas, wear fully enclosed protective suits and must be able to work at heights for an extended period of time.
General office environment may require occasional climbing, stopping, kneeling, reaching, standing and walking. Sitting, talking, hearing, and typing will occur often. May require minor lifting and bending.
Must thrive in a team atmosphere and effectively work with all levels of employees.
May be required to work nights or weekends occasionally to support launch process operations.
Complies with all Company health and safety policies and site-specific health and safety procedures. Participates in and supports the KEMCON safety program. Ensures safe operating conditions within area of responsibility. Identifies potential hazards, concerns, and safety incidents and reports to supervisory personnel.
