While performing the duties of this job, the employee assists with the Environment Health Safety & Security Program and compliance as well as other duties as needed.
Essential Functions • Receive personalized goals and projects that track directly to the needs of the business and allow you to have a hand in key company initiatives. • Collaborate on cross functional teams in order to design, develop and implement various EHS projects. • Maintain and develop training programs, actively participating in and coordinating training courses as necessary. • Audit and modify safety processes and procedures. • Conduct industrial hygiene studies and drive improvement projects. • Evaluate and assist with EPA regulatory requirements. • Assist with Incident Investigations and conducting Root Cause Analysis on EHS related incidents. • Assist in coordinating AES Safety efforts to engage and educate employees.
Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to explosives.
Physical Demands Performance of the required duties will require physical ability to climb permanent and temporary stairs, ability to climb ladders and negotiate work areas in a safe manner. Performing this job may require extending walking and/or standing. Intern may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a Full Time Summer Internship. With 40 hour work weeks (8 hours/day Monday-Friday) for a total of 10 weeks.
Travel No travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience Must be attending an accredited university working toward a major in Occupational Safety and Health or similar degree.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications • 18 years or older • Pass background check and pre-employment drug screen • Familiarity with industrial hygiene, safety, OSHA regulations, and EPA regulations. • Ability to solve real world EHS problems and apply active process improvement methods. • Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as solid analytical problem-solving skills are extremely valuable. • Ability to plan and organize work to effectively perform assigned tasks in a timely manner. • Ability to work independently, learn new tasks/handle multiple tasks, solve problems, meet deadlines, and show strong self-motivation and initiative. • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) • Ability to engage in cooperative and responsible behavior which affects the operation of the facility and the company in positive manner
