Postdoctoral Associate ~ Transportation, Environment (Air Quality), and Public Health at Cornell University

Integration of transportation systems modeling, emissions inventory estimation, and multiscale air quality/exposure models: advanced econometrical/mathematical models and data analysis for the demand and distribution (e.g., over space and time at multiple scales) of freight/passenger transport, supply chain and logistics activities. A better (e.g., more realistic and accurate) understanding and characterization of such activities under various policy and event shocks can be further combined with advanced emission (e.g., EPA's MOVES), CTM air quality models (e.g., CMAQ), and BenMAP (e.g. health valuation functions directly to gridded air quality modeling results) for the holistic evaluation and optimization of transportation/environment/health systems. The ideal applicant will have experience with multi-scale emissions inventory estimation and air quality modeling, health risk assessment, formulation and solution of policy optimization problems, and familiarity with the quantitative assessment of environmental impacts of transportation systems.
Requirements: The successful candidate for this post-doc position has a strong background in mobile emissions and air quality modeling, travel demand and transportation network analysis, programming and software development, and a PhD degree in relevant areas such as environmental science, civil and environmental engineering (e.g., transportation systems engineering), operations research or a related field. Excellence in academic writing is essential. The research associate is expected to contribute to the development of manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals and presentations to describe research methods, key findings and implications useful to inform policy-level decision making.
USDOT Center for Transportation, Environment, and Community Health (CTECH). The newly awarded USDOT Center at Cornell University for Transportation, Environment, and Community Health (CTECH) will pursue research and innovation to support sustainable mobility of people and goods while preserving the environment and improving community health. It will leverage behavioral and economic sciences, epidemiology, information technology, and environmental and transportation sciences and technologies to address the critical urbanization, transportation, environment, and health issues.
