The Water Reclamation Division Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining the water reclamation plant, including conducting laboratory analysis and industrial monitoring. The position works under the general supervision of the WRD Supervisor, may oversee the work of an Operator-in-Training, and may work varying shifts.
Typical Job Duties:
These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. This position:
Ensures proper and safe environment and equipment operation.
Monitors, operates, services, and maintains systems and plant equipment, such as:
Ensuring equipment is operating within specified parameters, including inspecting equipment for mechanical failures, preparing related work orders, monitoring automated systems for safe and efficient operation, etc.
Adjusting automated computer system, controls and instruments.
Reading meters, gauges, and other monitoring equipment.
Observing plant influent for signs of toxic waste loads.
Responding to and dealing with system breakdowns and emergencies on varying shifts.
Installing equipment including pumps, valves, blowers, boilers, compressors, clarifiers, generators, chemical feeders, etc.
Collects samples and performs related laboratory analysis; performs on-site analysis and adjusts processes to achieve proper levels.
Prepares and completes data sheets, logs, flowcharts and reports, such as:
Inventory control and part ordering.
Compiling, calculating, checking and recording information and data.
Using automated computer systems.
Scope of assigned area of responsibility will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Public Works Director.

Must have the ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.
Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.
Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
Ideally, one to two years of experience, or satisfactory completion of Operator-in-Training period; and
Graduation from high school, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Current technical/professional knowledge of complex principles, methods, standards and techniques associated with the scope of work of a recognized profession, such as:
Knowledge of plant operations, basic mathematical concepts, laboratory and sampling methods, power tools, and troubleshooting.
Knowledge of safe work principles and practices, methods and tools used in plant operations.
Possession of licenses and/or certifications associated with the assignment, such as:
Possession of Grade I Wastewater Treatment System Operator Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
Requires possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).

Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by the Public Works Department - Water Reclamation Division. Candidates most closely meeting the City's needs will be referred for interview with final appointment by the City Manager. Selection procedures and time lines subject to change.
