The City of North Port is currently seeking a Solid Waste Superintendent for our Department of Public Works. North Port is a growing City located in beautiful southwest Florida. This position reports directly to our Solid Waste Manager and provides direction to the Solid Waste Division We have an amazing work environment where you will be encouraged to try new things and implement new ideas. This is a leadership position with a salary of $51,561.31/year, plus benefits. The cost of living in North Port is very affordable and the State of Florida does not have a state income tax.
Job functions include:
Assigns and supervises work crews operating solid waste collection equipment.
Receives calls from employees reporting illnesses or other emergencies; schedules and approves leave requests; monitors leave usage for possible abuse.
Monitors progress of daily operations; reassigns personnel and equipment as necessary to ensure the completion of collection routes.
Maintains a daily log report that includes personnel, vehicle assignments and route listings.
Conducts field inspections of route crews to ensure proper work procedures are being followed; provides technical guidance to resolve problems as needed.
Analyzes house counts, volume studies, complaint records, and overtime usage to ensures route are balanced for all collection programs; Modifies existing routes or develops of new routes when necessary.
Receives and reviews customer complaints regarding collection programs; determines nature of the problem and takes corrective action.
Inspects equipment to ensure that maintenance needs are being reported and necessary repairs are completed.
Inspects proposed annexation for potential service problems; determines method of collection and route implementation in newly annexed areas.
Monitors inventory of equipment and supplies.
Notifies the Solid Waste Manager of unusual problems with collection programs, equipment, or personnel.
In the absence of the Solid Waste Manager, may be required to perform the Solid Waste Manager's duties.
During periods of staff shortages, may be required to participate in activities of the crew, in the loading and hauling of solid waste.
Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. At least two years of experience in solid waste collection. At least one (1) year supervisory experience.
(A comparable amount of training, education or experience may be substituted for the above qualifications.)
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Florida driver's license by date of hire
Must possess a valid State of Florida Commercial Drivers License, Class B, with airbrakes endorsement license.
