We are currently seeking a Research Geologist to work side by side with a diverse team of analytical scientists. He/she will conduct projects involving the analysis of naturally occurring and manmade minerals and other crystalline and non-crystalline materials in support of laboratory proficiency testing programs.
Additional responsibilities will include:
Apply materials analysis skills to research various applied research topics in support of environmental sciences and engineering programs.
Lead method development and design of experiments using a variety of sample preparation equipment and analytical instrumentation, including TEM, SEM, AFM, PLM, PCM, and XRD for crystallographic measurements.
Implement QA/QC protocols consistent with established quality standards to generate data of known and documented quality.
Disseminate scientifically-defensible results through presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and technical reports.
Actively interact and collaborate with research scientists on transdisciplinary projects.
Provide overall technical, logistical, fiscal, and client management of projects.
Oversee, mentor, and train staff members for conduct of experiments and professional development.
Actively support and lead the preparation of technical proposals to both public and private sector clients.
Expand RTI’s minerals characterization and material science project portfolio.
Ph.D. in geology or a related discipline with minimum of 5 years of industrial experience or;
M.S. in geology or a related discipline with minimum of 10 years of directly relevant industrial experience.
U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Attention to detail and emphasis on quality.
Flexibility and responsiveness to client needs and confidence in addressing client concerns.
Demonstrated experience with quantitative analysis using microscopy and X-ray methods.
Demonstrated success functioning in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Experience working in an ISO-accredited environment.
Hands-on experience working with advanced electron microscopy (including SAED and EDS), optical microscopy, and X-ray instrumentation.
Experience serving on technical workgroups, consensus standards committees, audit committees, subject matter expert panels, etc.
Industrial hygiene certification (CIH)
