The position will perform a variety of complex technical and administrative duties involved in leading a team of staff and participating in the work involved in the production of the City’s safe drinking water supply; to coordinate water treatment related activities and projects and act as primary contact for information and project status; and to identify, analyze and resolve problems related to daily water treatment operations and maintenance.
Additional duties may include but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate and assist in the implementation and coordination of plant facilities and equipment for needed maintenance and repairs and preventative maintenance.
Operate the treatment plant and perform maintenance tasks as needed.
Obtain and provide support for water treatment plant staff during critical events such as high turbidity, equipment or component failure, or other source water quality problems.
Represent water treatment plant staff to outside groups, other city divisions, water users, customers and business partners.
Monitor water quality goals and parameters to ensure optimal treatment practices and results.
Track chemical and spare parts inventory; assist with the procurement of materials and supplies.
Maintain records of water quality performance, operator logs and maintenance repair history.
SALARY RANGE: $31.668 - $42.752 per hour*
SCHEDULE: Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., however, this position will need to be available for a varied work schedule.
*The Plant Supervisor classification is eligible for Team Pay which is a bonus that is earned when a Skill Based Pay (SBP) eligible work team achieves its pre-established fiscal year team operating goals and objectives. Team pay is referred to as “At Risk” and is not added to the employee’s Core Function Pay “base” salary. It must be re-earned each fiscal year.
Requires the equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in maintenance engineering, water treatment technology or project management.
The term “equivalent” means that directly related work experience exceeding the required work experience will substitute in equal time increments for college-level education, for example: one year of additional directly related work experience will substitute for one year of college educations (30 credit hours).
Requires three years of increasingly responsible full time experience in large water plant operations and related systems.
Candidates must have the minimum amount of work experience. Education will not substitute for the required work experience; however, related unpaid and/or volunteer work experience may be used as qualifying work experience.
Certifications, Licenses, and/or Registrations:
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Possession of the Grade III Water and required to obtain Grade IV Water Treatment certification issued by the State of Arizona within six months of hire.
Successful completion of initial probationary period is contingent upon passing an FBI background investigation. Based on position, referred applicants may be subject to additional testing which may include pre-employment polygraph, physical and drug screening.
