Granger has a new employment opportunity for a Landfill Supervisor to support the Landfill Operations Manager by directing the successful daily operations of the Landfill, including the landfill disposal facilities and the Lansing Disposal Center. Success in this position will include effectively leading a team of heavy equipment operators, and general laborers who contribute to the efficient operation of the landfill.

Ensure fill plans are followed, density goals are achieved, and the landfill is operated in a manner consistent with Granger goals and applicable permit requirements. Necessary modifications discussed with management prior to implementation.
Work with the Landfill Operations Manager to implement landfill gas collection plans, monitoring progress and assigning effective use of landfill team to achieve desired results.
Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs to ensure all reasonable actions are taken to prevent accidents and injuries; ensure a safe and productive work environment for all associates.
Engage landfill team in active participation to instill a culture of safety by demonstration of a personal commitment to safe operations and active personal outreach to operational employees.
Coordinate with driver team to educate and train drivers on appropriate landfill entrance, exit and dumping trash loads
Effectively assign landfill team to maintain the Landfill Disposal Center, including emptying cans and supporting the gate locations.
Partner with the maintenance department to ensure all equipment remains in working order and in compliance with safety standard including pre and post trips and other daily maintenance.
Interact with internal and external customers, upholding exceptional customer service standards while effectively enforcing waste acceptance standards, including managing difficult customer conversations and effectively finding mutually acceptable solutions.
Create a collaborative, communicative team environment and drive employee engagement.
Oversee personnel needs of the landfill team including selecting, coaching, and evaluating associates’ performance.
Source and/or provide training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
Provide input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
Assign work to landfill team and effectively use contingent staff to efficiently accomplish goals within budget.
Conduct and contribute to safety and operations meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among associates and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency.
Update and submit required reports in a timely manner.
Use software tools to manage a variety of tasks, such as time and attendance, asset utilization, fuel consumption and safety incidents.
Assist in the implementation of operational projects as needed.
Communicate with customers about service issues as needed.
Work with Landfill Operations Manager to reviews weekly productivity for landfill operations, provide input to waste and other teams as needed to ensure safe and efficient acceptance of materials.
Work with Landfill Operations Manager to monitor budget and operating metrics while diagnosing and improving processes, procedures, and performance.
Ensure thorough root cause investigations for all injuries and incidents, following-up with consistent discipline and retraining with the support of the safety team.
Formulate both short-term and long-term goals and action plans in conjunction with the Landfill Operations Manager
Stays abreast of all related regulations and changes to ensure compliance.

High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Landfill Management Certification or related postsecondary education preferred
Prior experience in managing personnel, prioritizing and scheduling for orderly and efficient completion and achievement within budget expectations
Prior experience safely and effectively operating heavy equipment in a landfill environment strongly preferred
Operational experience in landfill operations as it applies to regulatory requirements, compliance programs, proper utilization of air space, safe and efficient filling operations, scheduling needed capacity, gas collection and handling systems, leachate systems and knowledge of pump systems preferred
Prior experience reading and understanding engineered design plans
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to various sites
