General Summary This position is an operator for water/wastewater treatment equipment at a pilot scale facility (the Water Research Center) which is located within a power plant. This position works under the supervision of more advanced operators or a principal investigator in performing tasks related to operating and maintaining wastewater treatment pilot systems, collecting samples, and analyzing samples.
Operates and maintains Water Research Center processes and process units
Successfully applies basic skills in procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment appropriate to area of specialization
Understands the operation of pilot-scale equipment and is able to maintain safe and on-specification operation
Refers to Senior Technicians, Principal Investigator or Operations Supervisor for guidance
Strictly adheres to safety and reporting requirements
Performs the collection and identification of specific samples for subsequent analysis
Analyzes samples for field data, Total Suspended Solids and Total Dissolved Solids
Maintains a good relationship with internal and external customers as well as team members.
Adapts to changes/fluctuations in priorities, job tasks, and workload based on project and facility operational needs
Work schedule will be primarily day shift, Monday through Friday, but may vary depending on project needs
Able to safely and successfully operate general equipment and process development units once training has been provided.
Actively provides verbal briefings at beginning and end of shifts, provides written reports as requested.
Possesses familiarity with safe work procedures involving water and for working within a power plant
Able to repair components including valves, piping, and electrical, hydraulic and mechanical machinery
Maintains and repairs instrumentation in as requested in a timely manner.
Follows standard practices and procedures to accomplish tasks/duties that are varied but standardized
Resolves routine problems based on technical understanding of industrial processes; when necessary requests advice or guidance from more senior Process Technicians or Principal Investigator.
Performs general maintenance, assists others in diverse areas, and other duties as assigned
Accomplishes tasks within defined policies and practices
HS diploma or GED
3 years of relevant water/wastewater operations experience
Must be able to operate a fork lift vehicle
Must be able to work at heights of up to 25 feet with appropriate harness equipment
Must be able to climb up and down steps on a frequent basis
