DESCRIPTION: The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (District) is a regional government agency, committed to achieving clean air to protect the public's health, the environment and the global climate. The District accomplishes this goal through regulation of industrial facilities, regional planning efforts and various outreach and incentive programs designed to encourage clean air choices.
The District's jurisdiction encompasses all of seven counties - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Napa, and portions of two others - southwestern Solano and southern Sonoma.
The District is currently conducting a recruitment for the position of Environmental Planner I/II in the Planning and Climate Protection Division. There is one (1) position. This is an open recruitment for a full-time, represented position.
Under direction, performs professional environmental planning work, including conducting planning studies, research, and climate protection/air quality program activities; performs related work as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (Illustrative Only)
Assists in implementing and monitoring of the Air District's 2017 Clean Air Plan, including greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation measures in the following sectors: Buildings, Energy, Transportation, Stationary Sources, Water, Waste, Agriculture, Natural Lands, and Short-lived Climate Pollutants.
Coordinates and supports efforts to provide technical assistance to local governments on GHG mitigation, including: developing model ordinances; identifying and promoting best practices; developing guidelines for local climate action plans and GHG mitigation strategies.
Coordinates and supports efforts to convene local government staff, policy experts and stakeholder groups to assist in the implementation of Air District climate protection activities.
Maintains and updates a database on local climate action plans and local GHG mitigation measures.
Tracks local, state, regional and national policy and technology, and develops model policies related to building energy use.
Plans and conducts assigned research studies and prepares memos, reports and recommendations regarding climate protection and air quality programs.
Reviews and provides input on local climate action plans.
Consults with Air District engineers and technical staff relative to GHG quantification and measurement.
Responds to inquiries from local officials, consultants, and the public related to environmental planning and climate protection issues.
Makes effective oral presentations, or prepares materials for presentation, to the Board of Directors, Air District staff, and outside consultants, public agencies and stakeholder groups.
Represents the Air District at meetings with the public, other public agencies, consulting firms and stakeholder groups.
May act as liaison with other agencies, divisions and local government planning departments.
