This position will be responsible for managing capital improvement projects during initiation, conceptual design, and preliminary design. The position involves numerous meetings and conversations both formally and informally to understand interests and communicate SD1 information and positions to multiple state, business, residential, and political stakeholders. The position coordinates with the Engineering Design and Construction group to perform project management work to carry projects from concept and through final design, bidding, and construction. Specific duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Manage the initiation, conceptual design, and preliminary design of capital improvement projects such as sanitary and storm sewer rehabilitation and replacements, private source I/I removal projects, pump stations / force mains, detention and storage facilities, wastewater treatment plant improvements, and integrated gray, green and watershed control
Plan, investigate, and perform business case evaluations and return on investment to determine feasibility and
Aid in managing the annual capital budget development process and track capital costs on a routine
Direct activities for projects, including supervision of SD1 personnel and contractors.
Coordinate with SD1 personnel and outside consultants in the preparation of engineering and design
Manage professional services contracts, including costs, quality, schedule, and field
Interact with outside agencies, organizations, stakeholders, customers and other individuals that have a role in SD1’s ongoing and planned activities. This would include attendance at meetings and technical workshops, presentations to various stakeholders, meetings with property owners, and coordination with the local jurisdictions and planning and zoning agencies of Northern Kentucky.
Provide engineering assistance to all other SD1 Departments, as
Occasionally perform confined space entries, confined space certification or the ability to obtain certification with in the first 6-months of employment is required.

An understanding of sanitary sewer collection system, pump station, and treatment plant operation.
An understanding of sanitary flows, sanitary capacity, and inflow/infiltration.
Proficient in hydraulic engineering.
Ability to solve multiple practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited information or standardization
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to work effectively with people to gain consensus and endorsement to successfully develop and complete projects.
Excellent technical writing skills in order to develop and write reports, business correspondence, and process and procedure flowcharts and
Ability to multi-task and successfully complete work with little supervision and oversight
SD1 is responsible for the collection and treatment of Northern Kentucky's wastewater, as well as regional storm water management. SD1 is the second largest public sewer utility in Kentucky with a service area that covers approximately 220 square miles, encompassing more than 30 municipalities and unincorporated portions of Boone, Campbell and Kenton counties.
