The City of Kalispell is now accepting applications for the position of Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator at it's award winning Biological Nutrient Removal Plant in beautiful northwest Montana.
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical work in the operation, maintenance and repair of the Wastewater Treatment Plant
Works under the general supervision of the Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager, and the Assistant Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager.
Performs routine maintenance and janitorial work for the WWTP facility, such as cleaning buildings, storage tanks and plant piping; removes snow and washes sludge trucks and pickups.
Operates and maintains sludge dewatering equipment; operates trucks to transport sludge.
Maintains and overhauls pumps and motors; keeps records of repairs. Maintains and repairs small movable self-powered machinery such as snow blowers, lawn mowers, weed eaters and portable trash pumps.
Operates and maintains all associated equipment at the WWTP facility.
Performs inspections during plant “Rounds”.
Inspects plant equipment and operations; enters data into plant computerPerforms routine work order maintenance on assigned equipment and tanks; enters work order data into system.
Maintains plant grounds, such as lawn mowing, weed control and irrigation.
Calibrates, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation, display equipment, recording instruments and communication systems.
Performs routine sampling and laboratory tests as required.
Knowledge of the Montana Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (MPDES) permit parameters, taking necessary action to meet these legal requirements, such as sampling, monitoring, reporting, and responding to system inspections and malfunctions.
Performs other related work as required and assigned.
Assists management in obtaining cost bids for capital improvement projects and performs research and cost bids to acquire the parts for equipment at the WWTP.
Work rotating weekend shifts. Operators are required to work weekends and carries pager as needed for facility operations. Weekend duty schedule during on-call week is Monday thru Thursday with Friday off. Work Saturday thru Thursday with Friday, Saturday, & Sunday off. Schedule is subject to change based on business needs

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience:
Graduation from high school or hold a GED certificate.
Must have demonstrated a satisfactory driving record.
Current certification as a Montana Class 1C Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator or shows proof that out-of-state certification is equivalent and transferable to the Montana 1C certification preferred or ability to achieve within 9 months of start date.
Two years experience (minimum) working in a Waste Water Treatment Facility preferred.
Valid Montana Commercial Drivers License, Class B, air brakes, or a valid Commercial Drivers Instruction Permit at date of hire.
Must be able to work a rotating, daily changing schedule. Works weekends in rotation, (includes weekends and holidays) and must be able to carry a pager and respond to all hour emergency calls; carries a pager and responds to all hour emergency and non-emergency call outs.
