This is skilled work at the journeyman level, performing tasks in mechanical repair and preventative maintenance of automobiles, light and heavy-duty trucks, tractors, cranes, various pieces of equipment including mowers, edgers, trimmers, saws, and generators and other standard and special automotive equipment in accordance with standard trade practices. Work will include welding, occasional machining of parts, changing and repair of tires on automobiles and light duty trucks, and other duties relating to the upkeep of equipment.
Works with general supervision from the Fleet Mechanic Supervisor using independent judgment as to method of repair after receiving oral or written work orders as to the nature of work to be performed. A supervisor may check work during repairs or test-operating conditions of equipment after work is completed.
High School degree or GED equivalent required.
At least five years' experience with a variety of equipment such as automobiles, light- and heavy-duty trucks, lawn equipment, and generators, cranes, and other automotive and mechanical equipment required.
Completion of a related vocational course preferred. Coursework includes: Diesel Diagnostic Repair; Light, Medium, and Heavy Truck Suspension and Brakes; Electronic and Diagnostic Systems; Drivability and Emission Repair.
Must hold and maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial with air brake endorsement and obtain a Class "A" Commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment.
