Role: Regulatory Toxicologist Position Title: Toxicology & Chemicals Management Work Location: Atlanta, GA
Primary Function: The position is responsible for supporting the innovation and product development capability of Georgia-Pacific Consumer Products, Building Products, and Chemicals Division as a science/regulatory toxicology expert on product safety and regulatory compliance matters. This position will be responsible for using sound, credible science within the appropriate regulatory framework to comply with regulations and provide quantitative and qualitative information for decision making.
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
Understand the state of the science concerning chemicals used in GP products and manufacturing processes, the impact on human health and the environment, and assess any significant gaps.
Support innovation and product development teams in evaluating products and manufacturing processes through chemical risk assessments including hazard and exposure assessments.
Develop and execute relevant preclinical, clinical, in vitro, and computational toxicity strategies to support the safety of ingredients and formulations.
Interpret data and conclusions of risk assessments and studies and respond to innovation and product development team inquiries on safety of products and chemicals.
Understand regulatory compliance obligations of state, federal and international chemical laws such as TSCA, FIFRA, FDA Food Contact laws, FDA Cosmetic and OTC laws, Canada DSL, OSHA HAZCOM and California’s Proposition 65 and Green Chemistry laws and provide science support to innovation and product development teams to ensure compliance.
Provide expertise to the innovation and product development teams in the design of alternative technologies with enhanced human health and environmental profiles.
Track chemical legislative and regulatory developments and identify areas of risk for GP. Advocate in partnership with trade associations and coalitions on legislative regulatory, and market-driven emerging chemical issues.
What You Will Need:
Master’s degree in Biological Sciences or related science
5 years of professional experience in industry (Consumer Products, Chemicals, or related field)
Experience in ingredient/chemical risk assessment, design and interpretation of toxicology studies/data (in vivo, in vitro, clinical)
Approximately 10-20% travel
What Will Put You Ahead?
PhD in Toxicology or related science
Regulatory knowledge of state, federal, and international chemical laws to include: the US FDA Cosmetic and OTC, TSCA, FIFRA, California Proposition 65, and California’s Green Chemistry laws
Experience in animal alternatives including computational toxicology, AOP, PBPK modeling, HTS.
