The Senior Planner / Engineer will be responsible for providing technical support in the way of concept design and related assistance on activities related to stormwater and watershed management. This position will work with other staff as well as local government technical staff while developing materials in support of regional and local educational needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide high-level engineering technical assistance to local jurisdictions in the development and implementation of stormwater programs which will include providing guidance and education on the Georgia Stormwater Management Manual (and related materials) with emphasis on green infrastructure / low impact development (GI/LID);
Prepare design development reports to support ongoing efforts to restore the Upper Flint River using state of the practice principles of stormwater and integrated water management;
Act as the organization lead on the engineering and design aspects of stormwater management, particularly as those outlined in the agency’s Water Resource Management Plan and the Georgia Stormwater Management Manual (specifically Volume 2);
Provide support on the Metro Water District’s Integrated Water Model;
Serve as the Metro Water District coordinator for the Post-Construction Stormwater Technology Assessment for proprietary stormwater devices and technologies;
Conduct and/or attend trainings and educational workshops on topics related to stormwater management, this includes developing curriculum and materials as needed;
Attend various meetings throughout the region, as well as periodic presentations delivered at ARC or partner agency committees and board meetings (some work-related commitments will occur outside of normal business hours);
Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge of stormwater rules and regulations at the federal, state, and local levels;
Understanding of stormwater, green infrastructure / low impact development, and Integrated Water Management concepts and watershed modeling;
Experience with the principles of Integrated Water Management;
Proficient in the use of stormwater design tools including basic modeling practices;
Ability to manage complex projects involving multiple stakeholders;
Ability to independently think through assignments comprehensively and creatively;
Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and precisely through a combination of verbal, written and graphic means;
Ability to present to a variety of audiences, from small groups of internal technical staff to larger groups of external public and private stakeholders;
Skill in oral and written communications as well as public speaking;
Excellent analytical and organizational skills;
Proficient in standard office equipment, Microsoft Office, and related software applications;
Possess strong interpersonal skills, communication skills and conflict resolution skills.
Master’s degree in engineering (civil, environmental, etc.) or landscape architecture
Experience in stormwater management design, engineering, plan review, inspection, or any combination of the aforementioned
Engineer in Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer License (PE) and/or Registered Landscape Architect (RLA) certifications

Additional Salary Information: no SS deductions except for Medicare portion, approx. 1.45% of salary
