Jones Edmunds, one of ENR's top 500 design firms has an exciting opportunity for a Civil/Enviornmental Engineer in our Gainesville Office. The Engineer will apply broad civil and environmental engineering knowledge of principles and practices in the field of solid waste management. The position may require multitasking and working on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects including facility design, permitting, compliance, and construction. The Engineer must have knowledge of environmental, geotechnical, and/or Stormwater engineering principles and practices of related fields and ability to function on multi-disciplinary teams. This position exercises good and independent judgment in selecting and adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to work projects and tasks. The Engineer must have the ability to devise solutions to new and complex problems. The engineer will work on a design team on various solid waste design projects including landfill bottom liner, landfill closure, gas collection and control, leachate management, financial analyses, and Stormwater design.
Essential Job Functions:
Ability to design partial to complete projects, systems, components, or processes and prepare complete project documents.
Prepare complete project document consistent with project plans and within project scope and budget.
Prepare written correspondence.
Identify, analyze, and propose solutions to, or solve problems related to projects or assigned work.
Communicate regularly with the Project Manager on project activities and track project progress on completed work relative to the agreed-on scope and deliverable goals.
Engage in continuing professional development.
Quality Program Responsibility
Assume responsibility for the quality of work submitted. Review, evaluate, and verify accuracy and viability of designs, data, reports, and other documents before submitting them to the next review level.
Adhere to project deadlines and keep the Project Manager or Supervising Engineer informed of any difficulties encountered on assignments.
Review Engineer Intern’s work that was completed under his/her direction.
Perform peer reviews of project work.
Submit work for quality control review on time and in a complete format.
May act as a Task Manager.
Provide information to the marketing team and others in the Company as requested.
May interact directly with clients.
May interact with other professionals through membership in societies and technical organizations.
Present a professional and positive image of Jones Edmunds.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Education: BS in Civil or Environmental Engineering from accredited college or university
Registration: Florida Registered Professional Engineer
Experience: 4+ years of progressive consulting or related experience
MS in Engineering or ME may be substituted for 1 year of experience
PhD in Engineering may be substituted for 2 years of experience
Other: Valid Driver’s License with an acceptable MVR
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must have knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design services. Must be able to use computer aided drafting or design software for designing, drafting, modeling, and other engineering tasks. Must stay up to date on knowledge of construction and government standards relevant to engineering and have the ability to apply new technical knowledge on the job. Must be able to use scientific rules and methods to solve problems as well as understand the implications of new information for current and future problem solving and decision making.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Perform work predominately indoors in environmentally controlled conditions in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Perform under the pressure of unpredictable, stressful, and demanding work. May be required to work extended and/or weekend hours.
Will be required to perform field work in cold, hot, and extremely humid weather conditions that involves visiting facilities, roadways, and remote areas. Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces. Must be aware of surroundings and use good judgment to avoid hazards such as wildlife, insects, and reptiles. May be exposed to traffic and moving mechanical parts. Required to wear personal protective equipment during field activities.
